ASC Community Coaching Course
A Level 3 Course |
We broadly rank courses into Level 1, 2, and 3. A level 1 course is basic images and HTML, and level 2 course might have some video and include more learning interactions and a Level 3 course will normally have custom shot video, Low fidelity simulations, and a lot of instructional design.
The example is the Australian Sports Commsision Community Coaching course, now in its second incarnation and has had over 350,000 completions. A high stakes course with a huge market this is an example of very wise investments in a high quality product.
Things to look out for:
- The Clean interface
- The custom shot video of mentors (actors) and Peer voice (People who do the job)
- In module 4 you'll find the session planner, a low fidelity simulator designed to allow the learner to practice designing a training session

A Level 1 Course
Play By The Rules - Child Protection |
This course is a level 1 or maybe a 1.5 if we wanted to be precise :)
It's a single module course designed to take about 20 minutes to complete.
Things to look out for:
- The simple layout and design
- The short nature of the course, 'Learning in a Lunch Box' style
- The scenario later in the module, done with a custom photo shoot and professional voice over. This is a bit cheaper than doing a full video shoot and to my mind has very nice style and more impact because of this approach.

A client built course and the sub-domain model
Sailing Australia - Tackers Induction
|
At Canopi we believe our clients should not have to go back to a developer to build or edit a course. Systems should be good enough now that a client can builkd their own high quality course that they are proud of and reflects the quality of their brand.
In this example we take a look at Sailing Australia's Tackers Course. This is the second course they built after Canopi provided them with one days training and about 10 hours of mentoring. I'm not sure of the exact figures but I think the first course might have taken about 120 hours to build and this second one about 60.
Things to look out for:
- The wide range of content templates used and to what effect.
- The dropped in video in Module 1, screen 2 that was produced for another business use.
- The amount of thinking that has gone into the instructional design.
- The nice clean layout and logical flows.
- The fact that you can use the same account as the one above to login. This is called the sub-domain model. One engine, shared accounts and shared courses.
- The fact that your enrolments above from the ASC site now appear in the Sailing Australia site.
- The assessments at the end of each module.

Single Server Sign-On (SSO)
Australian Rugby Union portal |
Many organisations have multiple IT systems to manage employee, customers or members details. SSO provides a better user experience for these people in that it means that these people only need to have one account to access all of the systems.
In this example we will create an account in the Rugby Link portal that will then give us access to the Learning Management System.
Thinks to look out for:
- When you try and go to the Learning portal it redirects you to the rugby link portal
- You create your account on the rugby link portal
- Them, when you log in you can jump over to the LMS
- When you log out you get redirected back to the Rugby Link portal
- You only have to login once to get access to two systems
|
Instructions to view the SSO in action
- Go to https://rugby.canopihr.com.au
- On the right enter you email address to try and reset your password
- If you don't have an acount it will ask you for more details to see if it can match you to an existing record
- If it can't match you then you can create a new account
- Do this now, and login with your new details
- Select the green tile to 'Move to the ARU Learning Centre'
- Select 'Browse Learning' and perhaps enrol in Smart Rugby if you'd like to look at a safety compliance course for Sports. This is a great example of Risk Management in sports.
